Glenn C. Micalizio, Ph.D.
This area of research is focused on defining enabling techniques for the facile synthesis of complex molecules. We pursue this course of study to define science that can be employed to fuel novel approaches to natural product total synthesis and allow medicinal exploration of such molecules. It is always of great interest to us that our chemical methods and synthesis strategies define or afford novel retrosynthetic relationships for organic synthesis, and that they address structures that are otherwise quite challenging/costly to prepare. We believe that contributions like these can have a broad impact with potential to shape the future of medicinal chemistry and drug discovery.
While there are many types of reactions that we have directed attention toward, having established >40 stereoselective transformations to date, we are particularly concerned with advancing reaction methods and synthesis strategies that solve challenging problems associated with stereo- and regiocontrol in carbon–carbon bond-forming reactions. To date, we have established reactions of broad utility that span heterocycle synthesis, polyketide assembly, as well as terpenoid construction. Ibrahim E. Celik, Ph.D.
Dr. Celik recieved his doctorate from Bergische Universität Wuppertal in 2022 and spent time as a postdoctoral associate in the laboratorty of Professor Christopher Vanderwal in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). In June 0f 2025, Dr. Celik began postdoctoral studies in the Micalizio laboratory in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UCI. His studies are focused on development of a new reaction cascade for the stereoselective construction of functionalized heterocycles as well as natural product-inspired target-oriented synthesis.

Bryant Lim, Ph.D.
Dr. Lim received his doctorate from the University of California, Irvine, where his graduate studies were completed in the laboratory of Professor Scott Rychnovsky. In April of 2025, Dr. Lim began an appointment as a postdoctoral associate in the Micalizio laboratory, where his studies have been focused on the development of a new method for stereoselective convergent coupling and the investigation of that reactivity in the context of solving a series of complex problems in natural product and function-oriented synthesis.
